What happened

Caterpillar, BHP, and Rio Tinto initiated a trial of two Cat 793 XE Early Learner battery-electric haul trucks at the Jimblebar iron ore mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The trucks arrived at the site late last year following safety validation and controlled testing at Caterpillar's Tucson Proving Ground in the US. Since deployment, the vehicles have accumulated over 100 hours of operational testing and completed more than 200 test laps under real-world mining conditions.
